특성
①허브 즉 방향식물중 수요가 세계적으로 가장 많은 것으로 꿀풀과의 숙근성 여러해살이 풀이다.
②키가 60cm정도까지 자라고 잎을 만지거나 문질렀을 때 즐거움을 주는 향을 오래 풍겨준다.
③피곤한 마음과 몸을 신선하고 상쾌하게 해주는 기분전환 허브이다.

재배방법
①씨앗은 하우스내 경우 게절에 관계없이 뿌리고 노지의 경우 4-6월까지 뿌린다.
②시원한 기후대를 좋아하여 한여름에는 직사광선을 피해주는 것이 좋다.
③씨앗을 뿌린후 흙으로 얇게 덮고 물을 줘서 습기를 유지시킨다.
④싹이 많이 올라올 때까지는 15-20일이 소요되며 30x35cm 간격으로 키우는 것이 좋다.
 
수확이용
①필요시마다 잎을 따서 이용하는데 보관을 원할 겨우 말려쓰는 것보다 얼려서 쓰는 것이 좋다.
②당근자르듯이 썰어서 스프, 소스, 고기속 채우는 요리, 진흙구이 요리에 이용하고 수정모양의 잎은 케이크나 냉음료에 넣어 먹는다.
③말린잎은 차로 이용된다.
 
영양성분
민간요법으로 풍차의 초기, 소화불량, 설사에 효과가 있다고 알려져 있다.
