학명 Ricinus communis

특성
①생육이 빠르고 재배가 쉬워 가정원예용으로 재배하기에 적합합니다.
②열대지방에서는 관목 또는 교목의 다년생이나 온대지방인 우리나라의 경우 일년생 초본으로 초장은 2m 내외입니다.
③잎은 손바닥 모양으로 5-6개로 갈라지며 개화기는 8-9월경입니다.
④자웅동주 식물로 윗 부분에는 연붉은 암꽃과 밑 부분에는 연한 노란색의 수꽃이 총상화서 형태로 달립니다.
⑤어린 잎은 반드시 삶아서 식용으로, 열매는 삭과 형태로 종자에서 짜낸 피마자유는 설사약, 공업용 등에 이용 됩니다.
⑥종자는 난형으로 매끈하며 짙은 갈색 반점이 있습니다.

주의사항
①햇볕이 잘 드는 양지에서 잘 자랍니다.
②서리가 내리면 시들어 죽으나 온실에서 재배할 경우 다년생으로 재배가 가능합니다.
③생육이 빠르므로 비옥토에서 잘 자라며 특히 수분 및 영양분 관리에 신경 써주어야 합니다.
